One of the more interesting places to go to in Davao City is the Ponce Suites.It’s a place where you can actually stay in while you’re in the city; it’s a Gallery Hotel. You get to experience great art while you are there.
Upon arrival, your breath can be taken away as you witness sculptures, huge but beautifully made ones in front or should I say, on the front facade of the hotel itself. But this is just the beginning of art invading your senses, there is so much more waiting inside. When my friend and I walked inside the hotel and just “toured” the floors (we were staying at another friend’s place), there was art in different forms and shapes and literally in every corner. It is as if the artist, Kublai Ponce Millan, has too much art bursting from him that it has too find their place in every available nook in the hotel. Kublai is an award-winning sculpture, artist born in Cotabato City. He finished Fine Arts in the University of the Philippines.
The family-owned Ponce Suites is located in Dona Vicenta Village in Davao City. Whether you come to the Hotel to stay or just look at the art pieces, it might just be a neat idea to bring along your camera with you.
Davao City is about an hour and half by plane from Manila, Philippines.
