Also referred to as the “Niagara Falls” of the Philippines, Tinuy-an Falls in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, flows in three levels. It is said to be the widest waterfall in the Philippines at 95 meters wide and 55 meters high.
My husband and I together with our friends had the chance to travel there coming from Butuan City. This was also during the same trip when we visited Britania Group of Islands in San Agustin, Surigao del Sur last December.
Residents in Bislig told us that the name Tinuy-an comes from the local term “tinuyuan”. The word means deliberate or intentional. I think it is just the right name as going to Tinuy-an means you really have to make the effort to get there. It’s location is quite distant from the main roads and you have to travel through some rough roads as well. It was very challenging to travel there even by van; it was slippery as it was raining that time. But getting there and seeing the falls, I would say, is really worth it 🙂
