Summertime in Phuket 1

I had originally thought of writing one single post about that lovely summer when Alice (my co-author of this blog) and I together with our husbands (Daryl and Geoff) and friend, Gloria spent several days in Phuket. But then there were so many lovely memories and so many photos (!) that I thought I should really just write 2 or maybe 3 articles from that summer in Thailand.
Thanks to some points from a club membership of Alice and Geoff, all five of us checked in at Marriott’s Phuket Beach Club in Mai Khao, Thalang, Phuket.

Dumbo will meet you in the dining area of the villa 🙂

This was not my first time in Thailand as I had stayed there for 3 years when I was still single, being involved with missions work but I never had the chance during all that time to visit Phuket. By the way, during my 3rd year in Thailand, Alice even got to visit me. Then in 2011, my husband Daryl and I had the opportunity to visit Chiang Mai in the north and then Thailand’s capital, the city of Bangkok.
Staying at Marriott was a lovely experience by itself. We all occupied one of their lovely villas. The villa has its own living room and dining area. It has 2 spacious bedrooms with the living room having a pull-out sofa bed as well 🙂 Our villa also has a lovely porch where we could also choose to eat our meals 🙂  The villa has two bathrooms, each one with its own bath tub. And did I mention that we had 3 TV sets? Yup, one for the dining room and one each for the bedrooms. But who thinks about spending time watching TV while in Phuket? Well, maybe just before bed time.
Meals were not included in our stay so we scheduled times of dining out (usually lunch and at times, dinner) while we prepared breakfast and some dinnertime meals by ourselves in our villa kitchen which has complete cooking facilities and utensils, including dining utensils.  We shopped for bread, fruits and some groceries at a Big C Supermarket. This is quite distant from the hotel so you need a ride going there. There is a nearby shopping area (called Turtle Village) where you could also shop as well as dine but prices can be a bit high here.

There are many things to do in Phuket. Well, even at the resort, there was a lot to explore. There are several restaurants to choose from. There are also areas  to just unwind or perhaps sip a drink within the hotel premises like these:
One area within the hotel premises to just relax.

Enjoying the hammock at the Sala Sawasdee lobby bar & restaurant. A live (Filipino!) band plays here at night.

Marriott’s Phuket Beach Club is a beachfront resort. But if you’re not into sand and see, the resort offers you 3 swimming pools to choose from 🙂
I think this is the biggest pool in the resort, loved by many especially the kids because of the large turtle figures 🙂

To swim or to pose — that seems to be the question 🙂

Here we are taking a dip before dinner, Geoff behind the camera.

We did enjoy our time in Phuket and it was especially enjoyable because we stayed at Marriott’s Phuket Beach club. Stay tuned for more about our time in Phuket 🙂
Getting There: We took a direct flight from Manila to Phuket which took almost 4 hours. We booked our flight as early as February for this May trip to avail of a sale from Cebu Pacific. We booked transportation to take us from the airport to the resort.
