Although my husband and I are now based in Mindanao, we regularly go home to Bohol.
On my side of the family, our ancestral house is right there in Tagbilaran. Aside from my brothers and their families living in the City, my relatives from both my father’s and mother’s side are based in Bohol, mostly living in Tagbilaran, Valencia and Balilihan. My husband, on the other hand, also has relatives there from both his father’s and mother’s side. In fact, while I was growing up in Tagbilaran, my husband was growing up in Dimiao. But we only met each other in Mindanao, in Butuan City when we were both working already.
Our usual option in traveling to Bohol is flying to Cebu and then taking a fast craft to Tagbilaran. We have also tried sailing by boat from Nasipit to Jagna and then traveling by private car or bus to our house in Tagbilaran or to my husband’s place in Dimiao. It is good news for us then when there are more options to travel to Bohol 🙂
Beginning this year, flights have been made available from Cebu to Tagbilaran. I must say, however, that back in the 1980’s, there were flights on the same route but ultimately stopped as I think the preference then was really just to travel by boat. And even if it meant traveling by slow boat for 4 hours as the fast craft was not yet available then (they were introduced in the 1990’s). Aside from taking the slow boat back then as a kid, I remember taking a flight with my mother to Cebu from Tagbilaran. When I studied and worked in Cebu, aside from taking the slow boat, I eventually enjoyed taking the fast craft when it was introduced to Tagbilaran and Cebu waters.
