One of the highlights for me during my trip to Singapore a few years back was checking out the Peranakan Museum. And if you have been reading a lot from this blog, you would see that I enjoy museums and different cultures. But now back to the Peranakan Museum. This museum showcases the culture of Peranakan communities not only in Singapore but in Asia. It contains “one of the finest and most comprehensive collections of Peranakan objects.”
The museum which is located in the former Tao Nan Chinese School built in 1912 has galleries on three floors. They are rich with artifacts and visuals of Peranakan cultural traditions as well as visual arts. The museum is a component of the Asian Civilizations Museum and is operating under the National Heritage Board.
Located in 39 Armenian Street, the museum is open Mondays (1-7 pm) as well as on Tuesday to Sunday (9:30 am to 7 pm, up to 9 pm on Fridays). Adult admission is $3.
