I just learned through a fellow blogger that June 5, 2012 was declared as World Environment Day by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) . I was happy reading her post about it — I believe that all of us who are “earth dwellers” should make an effort towards taking care of our environment.
I tie this in, this taking care of our environment as we travel. You see, I have seen quite a few times how some travelers would leave their trash as they travel. Some would do so in beaches and some do on the buses they travel on. I find this quite sad, this not only bothers other beach goers and bus passengers, to me, this shows a lack of discipline and care for our environment.
According to my fellow blogger, this year’s theme for World Environment Day is Green Economy. I checked out the UNEP website to find out more about this. UNEP defines the Green Economy “as one that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. In its simplest expression, a green economy can be thought of as one which is low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive.”  To me, I would just simply define a green economy as one where all earth dwellers strive towards taking better care of our environment in all possible ways. This would mean that we make sure that we conserve energy, be responsible for our garbage, and promote to everyone we know that they can do the same. I really think we should talk more about taking care our environment. After all, what gets talked about gets done. Now, my dear reader, how about you?
