Getting a Car? Check Out These 4 Tips

Sponsored post.

Finding the right car to use or buy whether for travel or work is important. Getting a car not only improves your mobility, it can also spell convenience for you.

Now, whether you decide to buy a new car or a used one will cost you money. That is why it is important to think through and consider several things before making the purchase. Here are 4 tips that might help you in your car purchase:

1. Decide the basics of what you like, need. Since it is you who will be using the car day in and day out, make sure that the one you buy is actually the one you like and need. A friend of mine once picked me up at the airport when I visited her city. She was driving a van and she kept apologizing to me throughout the ride that she was having a hard time driving. It was her husband who chose the car and yet it was supposed to be her who will be using it regularly. She told me that it was not the kind of car she liked or needed.

2. Do the research. Buying a car requires more money than most of your other purchases. And so you have to be sure you know about the cars you are considering to buy. Thankfully, there are sites that can serve you in getting more information about a car, including price estimates. Check out Cars.com. You can even find videos and reviews there by others who have made purchases which can be very helpful. Doing research will help you make a more informed decision about your purchase.

During our trip to Phuket, Thailand in 2014, our friend rented a car to pick us up at the airport. She also rented one we used to go around the city.

3. Tag along an expert friend. Now, should you still feel less confident about making that car purchase alone, then by all means tag a family member along or a friend who knows more about cars than you. A friend of mine who has been looking into purchasing a used car decided to bring along a car mechanic friend. That’s certainly a smart move.

4. Check out several shops, dealers. Don’t get stuck with just one shop or dealer. Inquire from several ones, compare prices. There are shops or dealers that will offer you a better deal than the others like special discounts or other free items that can come with your purchase.

Here’s to a satisfied car purchase to you. And yes, don’t forget to drive safely to your next destination.

Visiting Pegasus Town, New Zealand

When we went to New Zealand late last year, we both spent time in the North and South Island. We arrived in Auckland (North Island) and stayed there for a day before proceeding to Hamilton where we spent several days. We then went to Christchurch (South Island) where we also stayed for several days.

Our host for our stay in Christchurch was my cousin Jaireh and his family. One of the places they took us to was Pegasus town in North Canterbury which is about 40 minutes away from Christchurch. The plan was to have lunch at the Pegasus Golf and Sports Club, particularly at The Bunker Cafe and Bar. By the way, I wrote a separate post about some of the food we enjoyed in NZ which you can find here.

The Pegasus Golf and Sports Club First opened its doors in December 2009 and hosted the New Zealand Women’s Open in 2010, 2011 and 2012. It has an 18-hole championship course. It also has a driving range, practice greens, pro shop, tennis courts and a well-equipped gym.

After enjoying our sumptuous brunch, we drove around the area to check out the town. It was all clean and quiet 🙂  But then again the weather back in November was still cold. Summer time paints a totally different scenario where families would be sitting by the lake and kids and adult would be enjoying a swim. As it is, it was just us enjoying the quiet and relaxing beauty of the place that morning. And of course, we tried to capture the memories of that day with photos. If I did not feel so cold that day, we would have more photos 🙂 Let’s just say I am not really used to below 10 degrees Centigrade weather.

Here is a video of Pegasus town which I found on YouTube. It tells more about the town, the story behind it. It also shows how the seemingly “deserted” parts of the place we explored are filled with people during the warmer seasons of the year.

By the way, we were in Pegasus during our anniversary 🙂 We celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary in New Zealand. How cool is that? 🙂 We are truly thankful to God and to our family and friends who encouraged us and helped made our NZ trip a beautiful reality.

  • How We Got There:
  • We flew round trip via Thai Airways from Manila to Bangkok and then Bangkok to Auckland. We booked online and got good fares. We also got to choose our seats round trip and also the food served to us during the flights when we did the booking.
  • We were picked up in Auckland by our Hamilton host and we traveled by land going to Hamilton. Private land travel from Auckland to Hamilton is about an hour and a half.
  • To go to Christchurch, we went back to Auckland and took a flight to Christchurch. We flew via Jet Star. Flight time is about one hour and 45 minutes. Hamilton is located in the North Island of New Zealand while Christchurch is in the South Island. It is advisable to book early to get good fares for domestic flights (the same with that of the international flights).

Take a Break, Travel, Play Music

I think that traveling is one of the best ways to take a break.

Whether you travel to the next town or fly over an ocean to visit an international decision, this will take you out from your usual routine. The experience can help you see things in a new light. It refreshes your mind, challenges your perspective.

Music, on the other hand, may not mean stepping into a new physical territory like traveling but like reading, it can take you to places as well. It can bring you back to the past, it can let you re-experience the happy places in your life. And yes, it can even allow you to revisit some of the painful stops and pauses in your life. I think this is true whether you just listen to music, watch a live musical performance or whether you yourself are playing music with the piano or a Fender guitar (by the way, check out the best musiciansfriend.com fender guitars).

Traveling and music. Both provide opportunities to take a break from our usual routines. Both can take us to places, and hopefully inspire you and me as we continue our own personal journeys in life.
